Super SundayPHOTOS by Joanne Cole Super Sunday is an annual gathering of Mardi Gras Indian tribes celebrating their heritage and culture in a magnificent display of hand-sewn suits, singing, dancing and chanting. It falls on the Sunday closest to St. Joseph's day. Prior to 1969, Mardi Gras Indians celebrated by coming out at night to meet and greet other tribes. In 1969, the first parade was created and rolled through city at night. In 1970, the procession became a day parade on Sunday afternoon, and has continued in that tradition to this day. - OffBeat Magazine Joanne is a prolific nonprofit fundraiser, part-time New Orleans resident, and creator of GOLD HILL GOO and Hand Made Knitted Hats, which are "VERY popular and guaranteed to get you compliments every time you wear them." Video of the recent WET LEG show at The Crocodile by Michelle Quisenberry. Is your muffin buttered? Would you like us to assign someone to butter your muffin? Excuse me. What? Excuse me. What? Lyrics from the WET LEG single "On the Chaise Longue." According to Collins, "the term was popularized by the film Mean Girls." He adds, "it pops up pretty quick on Urban Dictionary, if you happened to miss the movie based in part on Rosalind Wiseman's 2002 non-fiction self-help book, Queen Bees and Wannabes." Marco was first thrown under the international broadcast spotlight as the music director for the 1990s Seattle radio station that broke virtually every grunge band that mattered. And several that didn't. His super hero abilities were captured in the documentary film The Glamour and the Squalor. FallenORIGINAL SONG by Ace Backwards aka Peter Labriola. Last night I tripped into a mindless rage. As usual, the cause of my anger was my "thwarted desires" (isn't that what it usually comes down to??). I was drunk and I was jonesing to play the public piano. To record one of my immortal works of music on my cellphone while I was burning with "inspiration" (so-called)... . But these OTHER bums (as opposed to me) were camped out at the piano bench for HOURS. They weren't even playing the goddamn piano. They were just sitting on the piano bench because it was a convenient place to hang out and do drugs (friggin' tweakers!!). And, needless to say, they made a mess on the piano. When they FINALLY left, and I was able to take my rightful place with my fat ass on the piano bench -- they had left this gooey gunk (I'm not even sure what it was, most likely some weird residue from whatever drug the kids are tweaking out to these days) smeared all over the top of the piano.... Which only increased my rage at life in general, and humanity in particular. But finally I was able to sit down at the piano and record my latest song (which I had high hopes of posting on my YouTube page and getting at least 40 "views" and maybe even 2 or 3 "likes"). . . So I was just getting started. And then after 1:08 minutes of live piano genius (plus emotionally evocative croaking vocals) I ran out of storage on my goddamn cellphone and the thing went dead. YOU JUST CAN'T WIN!! I would have been more pissed, but I was so drunk at that point that I probably would have just fucked up the song anyways. So maybe it was just as well that it was cut short by fate at the 1:08 mark. Ace Backwards is a homeless writer and artist who lives in Berkeley, California.
